Beyond the Backyard
Beyond the Backyard
Your Investment
$285.00Beyond the Backyard focuses on supporting your dog's reliability and engagement with you outside of your home and during situations of increasingly high levels of distraction. This class is a preparation for real world interactions. This class for you if those foundational skills (acquired in our Level 1 classes) are going well inside the home, but you're still needing cooperation from your dog outside and about town.
*Note: Our Basic Manners for Puppies Class is a prerequisite for this course.
We strongly recommend bringing someone to assist you with setups throughout. The extra hands ensure you'll be able to use time in class optimally. Our instructors are happy to help, but will also need to equally split time coaching others in the program. Helpers are key in making the most out of the sessions.

Group Classes
Registration and Package Cancellation
- Full Payment is due at enrollment to reserve your space in the training class. We are unable to hold space without completed registration and payment.
- Payment is non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions.
- We are different from a tangible product in that we can't just put our services back on the shelf to resell like you would if returning a pair of shoes. Once a class is full, the website administrator removes that offering from the website. Cancellations would require we rebuild the product offering, all which comes at an expense. Please be sure when registering that this is the class for you and your dog.
- All sessions must be completed within 6 weeks from the class start date.
Missed Classes
If you must miss a class, please notify the trainer and then use your supporting materials for the week to stay on track. Rocky Mountain Dog Training does not offer make up sessions for group classes.
Group Class Outline & Requirements
- Unless otherwise indicated, group classes meet for 50 minutes to 1 hour weekly.
- Dogs must be current on age-appropriate vaccinations.
- All dogs should potty prior to entering the building.
- Bring a variety of treats your dog is crazy about to each class.
- Bring an edible chew or frozen, stuffed Toppl or Kong to each class.
- You may enter the building 5 minutes prior to the start of your class. Please take a moment to exercise your dog if you arrive early as we will have participants from the previous class exiting the building, and will be setting up the room for your class.
- Arrive and be prepared to start the class on time. Late arrivals cause disruption to the flow of the class.
- Your dog should be equipped with a flat nylon or leather collar or martingale collar, harness as needed and 4-6 foot leash. We do not permit prong, choke, slip leads, electronic collars or retractable leashes.
- We will review all needs in the week 1 class prior to dogs attending, so do not feel like you need to rush out and get everything now.
Class Participation
While family participation is generally encouraged, please be respectful of your class participants and ensure that your group is not disruptive to those in your immediate surrounding. Children must stay with parents at all times. Please ensure all dogs are handled by an adult while navigating the space for everyone's safety.
Dog Appropriateness
Unless otherwise specified, all dogs in a group setting must be comfortable and friendly with other dogs and strangers.
Group classes are an economical option, and as such we do not evaluate dogs entering the program. It is up to our clients to determine if their dog will be appropriate or a group setting. For us it's all about safety and limiting disruption to others in attendance. Aggressive dogs are not appropriate for groups. Significantly fearful dogs are not appropriate for groups. We know dogs will bark, you don't need a trained dog to attend classes (otherwise you wouldn't need us)! We just need to be sure that the other dogs and people in attendance are safe, and that they can hear us presenting!
At the trainer's discretion, dogs deemed dangerous, aggressive or highly fearful will be removed from class without refund however you are still welcome to attend without the dog since group classes are intended to teach the human end of the equation how to train the dog. Having not met your dog prior to the start of the class, we rely on you for this information. We suggest you read the course information and dog requirements carefully before making your purchase.
If you are unsure your dog is an appropriate candidate please email us with your concerns, and include what triggers the behavior, and what the behavior looks like (using observable terms, not emotion labels).
Cancellation of Classes On Our, Mother Nature's Part, or Acts of God
Minimum Participation: If minimum enrollment for the class is not met, you will be notified 24 hours prior to the class start date by email or telephone. You will have the option to continue on with your start date pushed out by 1-2 weeks or full refund. This has not happened, but we are asked about it from time to time.
Weather: In the event of a weather cancellation, you will be notified a minimum of 1 hour prior to your class start time via email. It is a good idea to check your email prior to heading out during excessive rain / flooding or heavy snow. Make up classes will be held at the end of your training package on same date and time as prior classes. You will be notified by your trainer of the schedule.
Sickness
